Andrew Popham Physiotherapist Riccarton, University of Canterbury undercroft

Physiotherapist

Qualifications: Bachelor of Physiotherapy (University of Otago)

Biography:
I have a strong background in sport, with experience as a rugby sports medic and many years playing competitive hockey. I am also currently a professional disc golfer. These experiences give me valuable insight into the demands athletes face and the injuries that commonly occur both on and off the field.

Clinical Interests:
I enjoy working with all sports-related injuries and have a particular passion for Achilles ruptures and Achilles pain, hamstring injuries, hip impingement, and lower back pain. As someone who has dealt with many of these injuries myself, I bring firsthand understanding of the physical and mental challenges that come with rehab.

I value delivering the highest quality service and am committed to ongoing learning to ensure I provide gold-standard, evidence-based care. My focus is on thorough, personalized rehabilitation that supports long-term success and confidently returns people to the activities they love. I enjoy working with recreational and competitive athletes, as well as adults wanting to return to activity, build confidence in the gym, or begin exercising safely after time off.

Hobbies & Interests:
Outside the clinic, I compete professionally in disc golf, spend time training in the gym, and continue developing my knowledge in physiotherapy and strength and conditioning.

Why I Love Being a Physio:
Having navigated my own injuries, I understand the impact that great rehabilitation can have. I’m passionate about guiding others through their recovery, helping them rebuild confidence, and supporting them to return to the activities and sports they love.
